Find Your True Self

There are many times in life when we might feel lost. Maybe shifts in our identity lead us to question who we are. Maybe we are at a key life crossroads and we don’t know which to go. Or, maybe we’re just at a place where we want to get to know ourselves better, inside and out. “Finding out True Self” might serve different purposes depending on what our goals are coming into this course. But regardless of the goal, the methods we’ll use to learn about ourselves are largely the same.

Uncovering your true self can be the key to a fulfilling life

If you’ve failed to act in perfect alignment with your true self in the past, you’re not alone. There are so many external influences on us at any given time that we often don’t realize that the decisions we’ve made or the actions we took were not truly our decisions or actions. Maybe society influenced us—perhaps by telling us to get a certain job, get married, buy a home, have kids, or whatever else is popular at the time. Or maybe our parents told us to pursue a certain education, career, or life path that never quite fit our world view. Or maybe it was even our friends—perhaps they encouraged us to take the path they took, to walk alongside them on their journey.

The influences in our lives are not necessarily negative, but they do often blind us to who we really are and what we really want. Maybe the true you is a free spirit who wants to live in a hippie commune, or start a groundbreaking business, or become a monk. There are no wrong answers when you ask deep questions about yourself. Your goal is to just listen and then decide what to do with the information. But the thing is, once you have revealed the truth of who you are and know what you really want in this life, it’s hard not to act on it because being your true self can feel both comforting and exciting at the same time. It can lead to the fulfilling life that we all desire.
